WELCOME TO THE ¡°INUIT OUTDOOR¡± CLUB IN XIANGFAN /
CHINA China is a country that in many ways
has a lot to offer to the foreigner, a.k.a. the ¡°lao wai¡±.
Sadly, for the adventurer, a lot of things has already been done, but yet many things remain to be explored. ¡®HIKING¡¯ is one of them! In the city of Xiangfan, located in the northwest of Hubei province, in the vast country of China, lies a picturesque club, called the ¡°Inuit Outdoor¡±. The ¡°Inuit Outdoor¡± club was founded
in early 2003, by a group of Chinese hikers who where tired of not only
the city environment, but also the lack of hiking activities in the area.
Together they set out to build up a hiking club of high standards, with a
great variety of activities, were different people could get together to
share the same interest, and hence the concept of the ¡°Inuit Outdoor¡± was
born. The motto was and still is : "Change your lifestyle!"
The
Inuit, as it is called by it¡¯s members, is more than merely a club just
for hiking. The idea of the club goes far beyond the concept of only
venturing into the wilderness, it also aims at providing a full out
service. Such as providing their members with good, but inexpensive
quality hiking equipment, customized trips based on individual needs and
of course facilities where you can discuss your recent trip over a beer or
two. Which is most important to the gearing up or winding down process
involved with a hiking trip! When coming to the Inuit it doesn¡¯t take you long to feel right at home. The atmosphere in the club is warm and friendly and the regulars are very open to foreigners. The level of English speaking is high, for a place such as Xiangfan. Which for the time being isn¡¯t that common when checking out the smaller cities of China. The Inuit is the only one of it¡¯s kind in the Xiangfan prefecture and the price of beer is ridiculously cheap! Apart from being a hiking club the Inuit also represents the
new China, and the new young Chinese way of thinking. Up until recently
China has been thought of as being an old communistic tradition (and
probably also was), which now is being blended with modern and youthful
ideas, creating a concept which has never been seen before. This is one of
the most intriguing aspects of the everyday life in China and this fact
gets highlighted through the Inuit when you hike around in the rural
countryside of Xiangfan, or take a visit to the club itself.
Therefore the Inuit not only serves as a hiking base close to wild nature but also as a forum, where new thoughts and ideas flourish between all different kinds of hikers, young and old, experienced or rookie, active or lazy and maybe more simply put, the ¡°talker¡± or the ¡°doer¡±. Through the Inuit you get a chance to see rural China. A China which is not yet frequently visited by the common ordinary traveller. The Inuit trips take you deep into rural areas where few or no expatriates have ever set their foot before and where you get an ultimate experience of hiking. The Inuit provides you with a variety of hikes with different degrees of difficulties. The range of hiking varies, from going for weekend hikes to pleasant rivers in summer, or climbing high mountains during the winter months. The length of trips vary from 1 day hikes up to 2 week hikes, ranging from local to going to Tibet or even Mongolia.
All of the guides in the Inuit are experienced hikers, that individually have undergone many thorough trials, thus bringing together a vast pool of experience.
